Grip socks, fitted fabric, no zippers. The short list of what actually matters — and why.

Fitted, simple, grip socks always.
The Form Edit
Nad Al Sheba, Dubai — four reformers, one room.
Reformer Pilates has a small but real dress code — driven by the machine, not by fashion. Straps catch loose fabric. Springs pinch drawstrings. Zippers scratch the leather carriage. Here's what actually matters for your first class in Dubai.
Leggings and a fitted top are the standard for a reason: the reformer has straps, springs, and a moving carriage, and loose fabric can genuinely catch. Full-length or 7/8 leggings work best. A fitted t-shirt, tank, or sports bra with a light layer over it is fine.
Avoid: oversized t-shirts, wide-leg pants, shorts that ride up, tops that fall forward when you're on your back.
Every reformer studio in Dubai requires grip socks. Barefoot on the carriage is a slip risk and a hygiene issue; regular socks slide on the vinyl. If you don't own a pair, arrive ten minutes early and buy them at the studio — most sell house socks for AED 40–70. Toeless, closed-toe, or full-foot styles all work.
Rings scratch the wooden handles. Long necklaces swing into your face during inversions. Watches catch on straps. Leave everything at reception or at home. Small studs and a wedding band are fine.
Tie long hair back, low. High ponytails and buns press uncomfortably against the reformer's headrest when you're lying down. A soft scrunchie or headband works well.
No. Almost everything you already own for gym or yoga will work, as long as it's fitted. Save the shopping for after your fifth class, when you know whether reformer is going to be a regular part of your week. If it is, invest in two or three fitted sets you can rotate rather than a full new wardrobe.
Arrive ten minutes early to your first class. Not five. The instructor needs time to walk you through the machine before the session starts, and rushing that briefing is the single most common reason a first class doesn't land.
The Form Edit runs private and semi-private reformer sessions from our Nad Al Sheba studio in Dubai. Grip socks are available at reception. Everything else — machine, springs, straps, water — is provided.
